Main Story. 01. 14.
The brand’s second-ever collection diverts excess fabric from ending up in landfiills Hikerkind debuts its first made-to-order capsule collection.
Hikerkind, the New York-based women’s hiking gear company that launched in June 2021, announces the launch of its made-to-order winter 2022 capsule collection that will be available for purchase on January 15, 2022: Fleece Pants_01 and Balaclava_01. Alongside Hikerkind’s debut piece of gear, Midlayer_01, the trio creates a complete mid-warmth hiking outfit.
In an effort to divert excess fabric from ending up in landfills, the Fleece Pants_01 and Balaclava_01 are composed of excess Bluesign® certified Polartec® Power Air™ material. Polartec® Power Air™ offers advanced thermal efficiency by regulating core body temperature and encapsulating lofted fibers within a multilayer, continuous yarn fabric construction instead of the traditional lofted or high pile knit structures susceptible to shedding. The first fabric technology engineered to reduce fiber shedding, Polartec® Power Air™ is a revolutionary new knit construction that retains warmth and reduces microfiber shedding by 5x.
For the 2022 winter capsule campaign, photographer Jonathan Tasker captured model, actress, hiker, and friend of Hikerkind Kristen Misthopoulos on a hike in Brooklyn, New York on Munsee Lenape and Canarsie land. Hikerkind featured Misthopoulos this past summer as part of the brand’s Hikerkind Features series. Hikerkind Features, is a documentary video and photography series that spotlights different hikers from the community and asks them to speak about their personal experience with the outdoors. Hikerkind chose to continue the series with Misthopoulos this winter, when conditions on the East Coast are more quiet, isolated, and gray. The new campaign embodies Misthopoulos’s shift to solo exploration in her search for connection to Mother Nature.
Both the Fleece Pants_01 and Balaclava_01 that make up the made-to-order winter 2022 capsule collection will each only have 10 pieces available.
