More airflow. Better breathability.
Most hard shell fabrics allow zero airflow. Even when compared to the best waterproof/breathable fabrics, Polartec® NeoShell® has over 2X the airflow. This controlled exchange of air allows the process of convection to increase the transfer of moisture vapor. You won’t notice windchill. But you will feel drier.

The standard for waterproof.
For a fabric to be considered waterproof, it must withstand the industry’s requirement in hydrostatic head tests of 10,000mm of water pressure. Anything beyond this point is unnecessary as it won’t keep you any drier. You’re dry at 10,000mm. You won’t stay drier with a higher number. But you’ll likely be wetter from sweat.

Dynamic testing for a dynamic world.
The airflow found in all conventional waterproof/breathables is close to zero whether you’re active or not. That’s why claims for these garments are based on static tests like RET and MVTR. But the claims become irrelevant the second you walk outside. Breathability is more accurately measured with Dynamic Breathability Testing, which accounts for real-world conditions like wind and movement. Polartec® NeoShell,® with its constant 2-way exchange of air, is 100% more breathable than the best waterproof/breathable shells on the market in active conditions. Ultimately, the test that matters the most is the one conducted in the field. Which is why we enlisted top athletes to help test and develop Polartec® NeoShell® from day one.

Escape The Confines of Traditional Fabrics
Waterproof technology has remained about the same since the very first hard shell. Breathability is achieved through diffusion: moisture and heat create enough pressure that moisture vapor finally passes through the fabric. Soft shells trade waterproofness for greater breathability by making use of convection: a constant exchange of air allows more moisture vapor to escape. Now,Polartec® NeoShell® delivers the best of both worlds. Its exclusive membrane allows air to pull moisture vapor out – even at extremely low levels of pressure. And it helps keep you drier during high-exertion activities. Polartec® NeoShell® is the first-ever fabric to enable peak performance in any condition. It’s time to be liberated.

Adam Pustelnik, Góry Magazine, Listopad
“When I tested Polartec NeoShell for the first time, I already had twenty years of experience with hardshell type of garments. Watching their slow evolution I wasn’t expecting anything really new, but in this case I was wrong. And it wasn’t only about - otherwise excellent – fabric performance. For me more important was the general feeling. And today when I’m standing in front of my closet, where I always have at least a couple of latest generation outdoor jackets, very often I choose the one made from Polartec NeoShell”
