Backpacker Magazine Recognizes Polartec® Products with Editors' Choice Snow Awards
Cabela's E.C.W.C.S. Thermal Zone Baselayers and Westcomb Shift Hoody/Fuse LT Jacket receive honors
(Lawrence, Mass.) - Polartec partners brands Cabela's and Westcomb have
been recognized with Backpacker Editors' Choice Snow Awards - Cabela's
for its E.C.W.C.S. Thermal Zone Baselayers made of Polartec® Power Dry®
High Efficiency fabrics, and Westcomb for its men's Shift Hoody and
women's Fuse LT Jacket, made of Polartec® NeoShell® fabrics. The
products, each also winners of Polartec® APEX Design Awards, were
selected for raising the bar in innovation, value and performance.
Backpacker's Editors' Choice Awards are part of the magazine's
19-year-old award program, which is based on months of rigorous field
testing. This year Polartec products were tested from Chile to Alaska
and the Swiss Alps to the highlands of Scotland.
Cabela's E.C.W.C.S. Thermal Zone Baselayers
are designed to create a complete body temperature regulating system
(with Polygiene® anti-odor treatment) that allows the outdoorsman more
versatility depending on the variety of weather conditions and
situations faced in the field. Body thermography was studied in order to
determine the critical areas that maintain core temperatures, and three
different weights of strategically-placed Polartec® Power Dry® High
Efficiency fabrics are employed to provide maximum breathability, warmth
and comfort where you need it most. Polartec® Power Dry® High
Efficiency, a version of the popular Polartec® Power Dry® fabric
designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat, is differentiated with a
grid back that maximizes warmth, minimizes weight and enhances
breathability.
Made using two lightweight versions of Polartec® NeoShell®, the most breathable waterproof fabric on the market, the 12oz men's Shift LT Hoody
and women's Fuse LT Jacket are the lightest Polartec® NeoShell® jackets
currently available. Soft and light, the Fuse and Shift jackets provide
no-compromise wind and water protection with stretch comfort and
breathability in simple, minimalist designs. Mostly made of a flyweight
ripstop nylon Polartec® NeoShell® fabric, the Fuse and Shift also employ
a burlier Polartec® NeoShell® fabric for increased durability on the
sides and underarms.
"Backpacker gear reviews have many imitators, few competitors and no
equals," says Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Dorn. "That's because no other
magazine or website conducts in-depth field testing as vigorously or
impartially as the crew led year-round by Gear Editor Kristin
Hostetter."
"Polartec continues to work closely with partner brands to build
technical fabrics that meet certain performance criteria, and these
awards recognize intelligent use of Polartec fabrics through hybrid, and
minimalist designs," adds Allon Cohne, Polartec Global Director of
Marketing. "Cabela's has embraced Polartec's next-to-skin fabrics just
as Westcomb has embraced Polartec's weather protection fabrics, and we
are proud to be part of a design process that has resulted in
recognition from such a respected group of gear testers."
